Dramatic match wins Chelsea last eight

A lot depended on this match. Defeat in the Champions League last-16 second leg could have ended Graham Potter’s Chelsea-chapter tonight. It would also have ensured another failed season for Chelsea. The task was tough as they lost 1-0 at Borussia Dortmund in the first leg. However, Chelsea showed that hard work in the dramatic match. They won 2-0 at home (2-1 on aggregate) and booked their ticket to the last eight.

The match at Stamford Bridge was a bird’s-eye view of the attack from the start. But Chelsea was more advanced than Dortmund in attack. They both came close once. However, the goal was not scored due to the lack of organized attack.

Meanwhile, Dortmund suffered a shock when their winger Julian Benedit left the field with an injury. On the other hand, Chelsea faced the biggest danger in the 17th minute of the match. However, goalkeeper Kepa saved Chelsea by touching Marco Reus’ shot from free-kick with his whole body and sending the ball out.

In the 28th minute, Chelsea’s progress was blocked by the goal post. Kai Havertz’s shot hit the post to disappoint the hosts. A little later, however, playing in Dapute, Chelsea got the ball into the net, but the Blues had to miss a goal due to offside.

After a while, Chelsea had to return with disappointment from the goal again. But there was no mistake in the 43rd minute of the match. Raheem Sterling put Chelsea ahead with a great goal. After this goal, 1-1 even in the two legs is also returned. Dortmund tried to repay the goal before the break. But they did not score.

Even after the break, Chelsea was dominant. They also got a penalty after only two minutes. Ben Chilwell’s shot hit Mariusz Wolff inside the D-box and Chelsea got a penalty. However, while taking the shot the first time, Havertz sent the goalkeeper in the opposite direction, but died at the post himself.

But before taking the shot, Chelsea got a chance to take a penalty shot again as the Dortmund player entered the box. Havertz sent the goalkeeper to the opposite side and took a shot in the same place as before. But this time it didn’t work. The ball hits the post and enters the net.

Dortmund players could not accept the decision to give a penalty and allow a second penalty shot. They also argued with the referee. However, it was of no avail. Falling behind, however, Dortmund tried to score goals by attacking one after another. At the end, they stormed the attack, but the desired goal did not come. In the end, Chelsea confirmed the last eight by winning the two legs 2-1.
